Torn at the Cross: Christianity’s Battle with Racism Through American History
Racism and Christianity in America are deeply intertwined, with Christian history providing
justifications for racial hierarchy (like white supremacy) while also fueling movements for racial
justice, particularly through Black churches that offer spiritual and political strength against
bigotry. Today, significant divisions persist, with many white Christians seeing less racism than
people of color, creating ongoing tension over the Church's role in racial reconciliation and
justice.

Speaker: The Rev. Milind Sojwal
Milind Sojwal brings over thirty years of experience as an Episcopal priest. He served for
17 years as Rector of All Angels’ Episcopal Church in Manhattan, New York. He holds a
ThM in History of Religion from Princeton Theological Seminary. Known for his
engaging sermons and thought-provoking lectures, Fr. Sojwal will guide us in an
exploration of the complicated relationship between racism and Christianity in America.
