
10 Pentecost 2011: Who do you say I am? A question that each must answer for him or herself.
The Jesus seminar sees Jesus as the embodiment of the force for freedom, standing against domination.
Another view is to see Jesus as the wise teacher, speaking with authority about our relationship to God.
Many see Jesus as the powerful and merciful healer of body and mind.
The book "Jesus Through the Centuries" puts forward the idea that Jesus is the human presence addressing the compelling situation of the day.
"Hero With a Thousand Faces" sees Jesus as a transhistorical presence bringing good from evil.
"Incognito" takes an ostensiblty secular view and sees a force that reckons the signs of the times and brings reckoning.
And so what about Easter? It can be seen as the presence of Jesus that the disciples experienced beyond death and, after Pentecost, as a normative, transhistorical presence enabling change through those that follow him.
But ....who do you say I am?
